We are now in a fire season in Canada. We see this is the natural right now with the fires spreading throughout the West. In the spirit, fire is a holy, awesome season. God is surrounded by fire. Ezekiel saw it, as the throne of God descended to earth. The 120 saw it as the Holy Spirit swooped into the upper room.
God first appeared to Moses in a burning bush. You remember the story in Exodus 2. Moses was on the backside of the desert tending sheep after escaping the wrath of Pharoah 40 years before. Alone and forgotten. He had fled the witchcraft and occult spirits of Egypt to flee to the Midianite country where he began living amongst the Midianites. The Midianites were Baal worshippers. The spirit that was released there makes you question, “Is God with us or not?” It will release doubt in God’s provision and his covenant promise and it will seek to plunder your resources, your family and the prophetic word over your life and your nation. Hopelessness sets in.
So there he was, and over the next 40 years, Moses began to feel like this was all there is. Everything promised about his future seemed a distant memory.
Then suddenly a bush became alight with fire and Moses turned aside to look. It only took turning aside to look! He was amazed because the bush was on fire but was not being consumed. Suddenly He heard the voice of God calling to him from the fire. “Take your shoes off Moses, for the place where you are standing is holy.” Now this bush was lit by the supernatural fiery power of God. What happens in an electric storm when you are in a car and you step out onto the ground? You get fried right? So what happened to Moses when he stood barefoot on the electrified ground that God called holy. I submit to you that he was infused with the electrical fire of God. It took a tongue tied nobody who had lost his identity and purpose and infused him with strength and power to stand up to the most powerful king on earth! God then revealed to him what his life’s purpose would be from that day forward. This is what happens in a burning bush experience. God transforms you and sets you on a path to your destiny! I believe we are in such a moment in the nation of Canada.
The interesting thing about God is once he sets a place apart as holy, He seems to keep coming back there. Mount Horeb is also known as Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. And God said, “I will bring you back to this mountain. So Moses would see this mountain again, but this time it wouldn’t be a bush that was on fire, but the entire mountain. The Bible says in Exodus 19 that the smoke from the fire on the mountain was like a raging fire and the whole mountain shook when the God of fire descended on it! It was so holy that the people had to be told to stay away from it and not even to touch it.
Isaiah 33:15 asks, “Who among us shall dwell in the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burning?’ Moses, because of his obedience with the burning bush was able to ascend the fiery mountain and stand in that place to receive the Ten Commandments written by the hand of God! The word “ascend” there in Hebrew is alah which can also mean “to burn”. Moses entered into the devouring fire and began to burn. Where did he go when he ascended the fiery mountain? Perhaps he entered into another realm because it says that God descended onto the mountain. It would explain why Moses could go up there for forty days without eating or drinking. When you are in the burning glory realm, there is no time. You just “are”.
Elijah, when he was battle weary from the war against Jezebel, ran back to this same mountain. Once again, it happened. Fire! Wind, earthquake, and then a fresh word to propel him forward. Elijah had experienced the fire on Mt Carmel so he could stand on the mountain of God in all the wild elements surrounding the awesome presence of God to receive his next assignment.
The burning bush experience is to enable us to stand when the whole mountain is burning. These are serious days. It is a “shoes off” moment when the earth and heaven are aligned and infused with a pure power to propel us into our destiny.
I believe God is calling the willing to turn aside to look into the fire and receive the revelation and assignment to do what he has tasked us to accomplish in this hour.
There is no turning back. Who can stand in the fire? Where are the burning ones who have cast fear and doubt aside to run to the battle for a nation with a big destiny.
